Becoming A Student

VCMT is focused on providing the best massage therapy education in the profession. Both our full-time and part-time programs thoroughly combine a science based curriculum with the hands on skills of massage therapy so graduates are fully equipped to succeed in their careers.

VCMT seeks students who are driven and committed to becoming the best possible health care practitioner they can be. Entrance into the program can be in high demand, so it’s recommended that applications be sent in early.

An interested applicant must complete the following steps to complete their application to the VCMT Massage Therapy program.

Due to high demand and early waitlists, we recommend applying 4 to 5 months prior to your preferred intake date.

Application Process

A successful applicant must have completed their high school graduation (dogwood) or equivalent. You can email a digital copy of this documentation to admissions@vcmt.ca.

  • International students, or students who have completed their education in a language other than English, will need to have their transcripts officially translated. It may also be required to provide an evaluation of equivalency to BC academic standards. This can be done through an ICES (International Credential Evaluation Service) through BCIT, World Education Services (wes.org) or similar evaluation service.
  • Post-secondary degrees or courses are considered advantageous for an application and may be submitted as part of a portfolio.

Strong English skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking are essential for this program. You must have achieved a minimum of 70% in English 12. If that standard wasn’t achieved, or if your education was completed in a language other than English, the English Standard can be met through one of the following ways:

  • Complete English 12 with a minimum final grade of 70% or above; or
  • Complete an approved college/university English course in a country where English is the principal language with a minimum grade of 70%; or
  • Successfully complete 2 years of full-time studies at an English-speaking college/university; or
  • Achieve one of the following minimums on an English language exam:
    • IELTS overall score of 6.5 with no part less than 6.0
    • TOEFL iBT overall score of 88 with no part less than 20
    • CELPIP overall score of 7 with no part less than 6
    • CLB overall score of 7 with no part less than 6
    • CAEL overall score of 70 with no part less than 60
    • PTE overall score of 65 with no part less than 60

Along with your application, please submit the following documents. Please save them as a PDF and name them with your First and Last Name and the name of the document (example: John Doe Criminal Record Check Form)

Your portfolio may contain supportive documentation or evidence indicating your level of readiness and commitment to complete the RMT training program successfully. It may include post-secondary degrees, transcripts, certifications or courses. It can also include relevant work experience, volunteer experience, reference letters, and/or resumes. Any portfolio documentation that an applicant wishes to submit may be emailed to the Director of Admissions at admissions@vcmt.ca.

Once the application form, academic transcripts and portfolio documents have been submitted, the Director of Admissions will be in contact to schedule a one-hour application interview. The interview is intended to determine the fit of an applicant. This program is strenuous, and as such, it’s pivotal to understand the readiness of an applicant to ensure their success.

The Introduction to Massage Weekend Workshopmust be completed prior to starting the program. Completion of a similar course at another school may be accepted. Provide this documentation to the VCMT admissions for confirmation.

Note: Final decisions regarding the suitability of a candidate rest fully with VCMT and its admissions representatives. Entrance into the program is competitive, so academic experience at the post-secondary level is highly recommended to strengthen an application. VCMT takes into account the gpa of an applicant’s academics to determine readiness for the program.

Entrance Requirements

As an accredited training college that’s approved by PTIB and recognized by CCHPBC, VCMT maintains high entrance standards to ensure our grads, and their certifications, are among the best in the world.

Admission into VCMT’s program is competitive. Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.

  • Successfully complete a personal interview with a VCMT representative.
  • Grade 12 Education or BC Adult Graduation Diploma, or equivalent.
  • Successfully complete VCMT’s Introductory Massage Workshop, or equivalent.
  • Secure a document-clear Criminal Record Check (VCMT). Any future changes or convictions for criminal offences must be reported and would require a new criminal record check authorization.
  • Meet the health requirements listed on the ‘VCMT Health Assessment Form’.
  • Meet one of the following English Language requirements:
    • Complete English 12 with a minimum final grade of 70% or above; or
    • Complete an approved college/university English course in a country where English is the principal language with a minimum grade of 70%; or
    • Successfully complete 2 years of full-time studies at an English-speaking college/university; or
    • Achieve one of the following minimums on an English language exam:

International Students

International Students are welcome to apply to the RMT program. They follow the same application process as domestic students. They may be required to provide an evaluation of their academic credentials, which can be completed through an ICES (International Credential Evaluation Service) through BCIT, World Education Service (wes.org), or an approved equivalent evaluation.

Successful candidates would be provided with a conditional letter of acceptance in order to obtain their study permit. Study Permits must be provided to the school a minimum of 1 month prior to the start date in order to hold their spot in that intake.

*Please keep in mind that as a private college, VCMT cannot offer a Post Grad Work Permit, so we encourage international students to discuss their best path to a work permit for when they complete the program with an immigration lawyer.

Student loans can be a great support for help with the tuition payments. Our team members have extensive knowledge about student loans, and are available to assist students with student loan applications and questions.
